Elephant Orphanage

You can’t ask Meredith about her trip to Kenya in May with Erik without hearing about Suguta, the elephant she adopted.  So today we took a “field trip” to see Suguta, and her other orphan elephant friends.  All the elephants are under 3 years old (after that they live at a game park getting more used to living in the wild.)  Most have been orphaned by poachers killing their mothers, or falling into wells.

You can go any day from 11-12 and see the baby elephants play and hear about them.  Lauren’s favorite part was having an elephant wrap it’s trunk around her arm.  All the girls got to touch the elephants as they walked by.

We learned today that Meredith can come any evening and help “put Suguta to bed.”  So we’ll probably go back next week to do that.  Hurrah for fun and unusual adventures in Kenya!!!
