Great is thy faithfulness
After almost exactly 2 years of work for Take Care as a Nurse Practitioner, I turned in my two week notice a couple days ago. I’m so excited! But what I am most excited about is the faithfulness of God in all of this.
I started working full time 2 years ago so that Erik could quit his full time job, and have the time to work on his own consulting business. Then he helped start Ushahidi, and the Lord has blessed that work incredibly. Now we’ll be moving to Kenya the end of next month for him to continue his work with them from Africa. After longing to move there our whole married life (10 years!), we’re finally getting the opportunity to go.
A couple mornings ago I was listening to praise music while getting the kids ready for school. “Great is thy faithfulness” was playing, and I was reminded of God’s faithfulness to us over these last 2 years of me working.
- He provided part time work for Erik immediately, and funding for Ushahidi (which equalled full time pay for him) in less than a year from him quitting his full time job.
- My children were never watched by strangers. Erik, Pam, my mother-in-law, my mom and 2 sisters when they’d visit, babysitters from church (most notably Sarah D., Sarah W. and Elizabeth), and even a couple neighborhood girls all took turns.
- I worked at a clinic 5 minutes from my house for all but the last 2 months of my work, allowing maximum time with my kids and the chance to come home at lunch.
- I had great collegues in Cindy and Emlyn - we worked well together, and I learned a lot from them. And another good friend Courtney, that I worked with.
- Against my will, God moved me to 2 other clinics the last couple months, allowing me to work on my Biblestudy on my lunch breaks (instead of household chores), and not feel guilty about deserting my friends at my home clinic when I left the company.
- We got the chance to watch God answer our prayer of “please help mommy not have to work” that all 3 girls have been praying.
Praise be to God!!

Welcome back to blog-land…says the guy who has been bloggingly missing for even longer! It has been a faith builder watching God show Himself faithful to you over these years. We’re so pleased to have had these years with you in O-town. Now we will have an even greater draw back to Africa–and Skype.
Wohooo! I’m so excited for you. What a great testimony of patience and waiting for the Lord’s timing.
Oh man! You are moving to Kenya? I hope you keep up the blog so we can see how you live and stuff. I’m a little torn. Excited you get to do this and sad I’ve been bad about keeping in touch.
(P.S. Your RSS feed has a bunch of spam links in it. )
Man - I got goose-bumps and tears reading this! What great pics too. It was great seeing you today!
wow, Rinnie. Beautiful pictures. So thankful the Lord has blessed you guys so much. Praising Him with you.
Also, thanks so much the oatmeal bread…we loved it!
I’m so proud of you Rinnie. What a testimony of your love for Erik and your trust in the Lord. “The one who calls you is faithful and He will do it!”
I’m so glad your wait is finally over, Rin! God has been opening the doors and has really blessed your faithfulness these past couple years. I’m going to miss you so much, though! These past 7-ish years will always be to me The Rinnie Years. We’ve been through a lot together… and it’s all been great! It’s been during the hardest seasons that we’ve found what a true friend really is…and the most laughter, I think.
Heard the news second hand and made my way to your blog to “hear” it from you. Incredible! We’re much closer now for you to visit us:) So happy for you and Erik, and the girls two. Where will they be in school? Where will you live in Nairobi? Have a house yet? Do hope you’re able to blog it all as you make the transition. Or maybe i’ll just have to hop the sea and see for myself!
